Overview

The Master's in Crisis Management – From Diplomacy to International Cooperation responds to the growing need to train specialised professionals capable of operating within Peacekeeping Operations. The programme develops in participants a solid operational capacity in problem-solving, management control, communication, analysis of international politics and strategic studies, preparing civilian and military personnel for the coordinated conduct of Peace Support Operations.

In a scenario in which diplomacy is assigned functions of managing forces in the field, and the armed forces are given increasing tasks of a diplomatic and political-administrative nature, the Master's fosters a shared knowledge base and a common language between military and civilian personnel. It is aimed at State officials, professionals in business and critical infrastructure, financial and import-export operators, geopolitics and geostrategy analysts, media and private security professionals, university researchers, and all those who, strongly motivated, take an interest in security, Peace Support Operations and international cooperation.

The training adopts the innovative e-learning methodology: the synopses are delivered directly to the participant's email inbox, making it possible to follow the lessons anywhere and at any time, within the deadlines set by the instructor, with only an internet connection.

The Master's is structured into lessons divided into three groups of disciplines — foundational, applied or characterising, and specialist — organised across three teaching modules.

First Module · Foundational disciplines

  • Principles of International Law
  • Sociology of Large Organisations
  • General Theory of Analysis
  • Geopolitics

Second Module · Applied and characterising disciplines

  • International Cooperation
  • International Security Organisations
  • Peace Support Operations

Third Module · Specialist disciplines

  • Judicial and Police Cooperation in Counter-Terrorism
  • Terrorism and Countermeasures
  • Emergency Communication

On completion of the Master's, UNINTESS awards all those deemed suitable, upon passing the required assessment exams, a Diploma formally certifying that they have reached a high level of knowledge of the topics covered in the programme. Employees of public administrations (the Ministry of Defence, Interior, Justice and others) are also provided, together with the diploma, with the documentation needed to request any recognition of the programme pursuant to the regulations in force.

  • Assessment: 11 assessments in the form of multiple-choice tests (4 on the foundational disciplines, 4 applied and characterising, 3 specialist); each test is passed with a minimum score of 18/30 and the final mark is the arithmetic average of the results.
  • Entry requirements: a degree (old system, master's or bachelor's) or an equivalent foreign qualification.
  • Timing: an overall commitment of approximately 850 hours, with the possibility of validating exams already taken and a consequent reduction of the programme.
